It helps to keep the temperature down, but you get a lot of fan operation, which is annoying and loud.... Not to mention that the fuel economy dropping. I feel it is better to have more fan than have the motor heat up before the fan engages. My 2 cents. WebSep 13, 2012 · Once you get above 20 mph or so you don't even need a fan, so a heavy duty fan clutch really only helps at low speeds. If you need more cooling for towing in heat I would be looking at a larger radiator and stay with a standard fan/clutch. Adding an engine oil cooler would help, too.
