Hyperkalemia from ACE inhibitors is usually mild. But severe hyperkalemia is also possible. It can lead to abnormal heart rhythms, which can be life-threatening. WebPatients with chronic renal insufficiency (serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dL) who received therapy with ACE inhibitors had about a five times higher risk of developing hyperkalemia than those with normal renal function, whereas presence of heart failure increased the risk of hyperkalemia by about three times over those without heart failure.
