Nuts are tightened with a torque wrench that is set for a certain power limit. If you tighten the nuts without the torque wrench, you may easily overtighten them or keep them loose. If your lug nuts are the solid type, i'd replace them all with 100% solid quality lug nuts. Then use a properly tight fitting 6 sided preferably an impact type socket to loosen or tighten them.

Over time, water gets trapped in between the steel and the chrome cover, and the steel starts to rust (especially if you live in a place where they use a lot of road salt).

Hammer on the 7/8 socket and use a punch to knock the lug back out. Buy new mcgard lug nuts to replace the old OEM ones. Or just get a single replacement for the one. Or if you can find a 23mm socket it should be a bit bigger and fit over the lug.

Dealer replaced under warranty but not taking a chance of being stuck on the highway with a tire you can't change because Lincoln tried to save $0.25 on a nut. Webb26 dec. 2014 · Yes, even anti-seize. Once again, not a drastic change, but over-torquing a lubed thread a 100 times, can have a cumulative effect. One of the results can be degrading of the threads on the bolt, nut or both and possible bolt failure. Inspect lug threads, replace if worn, new lug nuts and get a good torque wrench.
